Bray serves as tenor in residence at Immanuel Baptist Church and has credits on both classical and commercial recordings. He has performed in hundreds of concerts, both as a soloist and as an ensemble member, giving him extensive experience across a wide range of musical settings and styles. His work as a composer has also continued to gain a life beyond the page: Bray’s Sanctus will be performed for the fifth annual time at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in May 2027. These experiences demonstrate not only the breadth of his abilities, but a sustained commitment to putting those abilities into practice.

That commitment feels particularly urgent in the present moment. With civil unrest and violence occurring around the world, there is a profound need to use our God given gifts to bring people together and make them feel deeply. With as much turbulence as is happening around us, anything less than full devotion to this path feels insufficient. Music is one of our purest and most sacred art forms, and its power to connect souls across demographics, places, and times remains unparalleled. For Bray, the purpose of pursuing this work now is not simply about accomplishment, but to use music as a means of connection, emotional expression, and shared human experience at a time when those things are increasingly needed.

Bray’s strength is not simply that he can do many things individually; it is that he can bring them together into something singular. Who needs a tool kit when they have a Swiss Army Knife? In his own words, “get me a drummer and a bassist, and we’ve got a band!” Don’t worry, I know what you’re thinking: “what on Earth is this guy gonna do next?!” Bray is currently in the studio with Cameron Lewis recording a new jazz tune hot off the presses, which will serve as the first complete song for an upcoming EP. Just wait, the next chapter is already being recorded.

About

For only the most indecisive of listeners, Bray Stratton offers a wonderful smorgasbord of genre and instrumentation you won’t find anywhere else. A composer who sings and plays half a dozen instruments, Bray refuses to be confined to a single musical identity. That combination of breadth and depth is at the heart of what makes him distinctive: Bray is not simply a musician who happens to work in several styles, but an artist whose versatility is itself part of the artistic vision.

A Texas native, Bray’s musical identity has been shaped by both broad curiosity and rigorous training. He is pursuing a double major in Composition and Music Theory and performs with the Belmont Chorale, Chamber Singers, and New Music Ensemble. His work draws freely from jazz, country, classic rock, MPB, funk, salsa, classical, and more, weaving those influences together with the instincts of a composer and the curiosity and passion of a lifelong musician. He can move from the piano to the organ, from saxophone to clarinet, from trumpet to violin, all while maintaining a serious commitment to the crafts of composition and performance.

Alongside extensive classical training, Bray has pursued jazz through both study and research, including published papers on the tradition. The result is a musician with the technical foundation to move comfortably between musical worlds without being confined to any one of them. That versatility is backed by a substantial record of performance and professional work.
